Your guide to Ultimate hoop grip
How to prepare your hoop before taping?
The hoop must be clean, grease-free, and dry.
-
Option 1: Applying the tape to a hoop that has never had grip tape before
-
Ideally, wipe the surface with a cloth and a bit of alcohol or oil-free cleaner (e.g. isopropyl alcohol or 3M company has disposable cleaning wipes that works great)
-
Then continue with the application of the Ultimate Hoop Grip.
-
-
Option 2: Applying the tape to a hoop that had grip tape before and has glue residue
-
First, remove all glue residue from the hoop.
-
You’ll need a solvent for this (e.g. toluene-based solvent). Work with the solvent outdoors if possible, to ventilate the fumes.
-
Apply a small amount of solvent to a cloth and gently rub the areas where glue needs to be removed.
-
Important: Solvents may affect the finish of your hoop – for example, shiny hoops may become matte. Only clean the areas where it's absolutely necessary. Never wipe the entire hoop.
-
Once the glue is removed, allow the solvent to evaporate and the hoop to dry completely.
-
Then continue with the application of the Ultimate Hoop Grip.
-
-
Option 3: The hoop is already decorated with design tape
-
Make sure all tapes are firmly attached and not peeling off.
-
If any parts are peeling, trim them off.
-
Then continue with the application of the Ultimate Hoop Grip.
-
How to apply the tape correctly?
-
Start at the connection point of the hoop and guide the tape evenly along the inner edge, around the entire tubing, or along the outer edge – depending on your preference.
-
Peel off the protective layer and press the tape firmly to the hoop from one end to the other.
Avoid stretching the tape during application – too much tension may cause it to lift later.
-
Make sure to press down the edges well to avoid air bubbles and ensure a strong bond.
-
After applying the tape, it’s recommended to press over it firmly with a smooth, hard object (like the back of a spoon, pen etc) to improve adhesion.
-
Try not to peel and reapply the tape, as this may reduce its stickiness.
Tips for longer durability
-
For the first 7 days after applying, do not fold or collapse your hoop.
The adhesive used on the tape needs time to cure – over time, it turns into a strong yet flexible bond.
Folding the hoop too early may cause wrinkles or lifting in the tape. -
Once fully cured (after 7 days), it’s normal for the tape to slightly ripple in areas where the hoop is most bent when folded. This has no impact on its performance, and the tape will return to its original form once the hoop is unfolded.
-
In general:
-
The less you fold the hoop, the longer it lasts – this applies to both the hoop and the tape.
-
Avoid folding the hoop in half. If needed, connect multiple hoops together and fold them as one.
-
Keep your hoop folded only for the shortest possible time.
-
Never leave your hoop in a hot car, direct sunlight, or extreme cold, as this can damage both the material and the tape.
